cracked lower unit 85hp ob

went out this spring to find a inch and half crack about one inch below gear oil fill hole.I did not know about winterizing lower unit is this something that can be welded or epoxied any input would be welcome thank in advance

Welding it would be a better fix. You're lucky it wasn't worse. You obviously have water intrusion. Pressure test it after the fix, but before re-installing. I trimmed the butt of a tire valve stem to size and clamped it to the hose from a gear lube pump. Don't exceed 15 psi, or you'll turn the inner seals outwards (been there). A tub of water helps to find leaks. If it holds, the o-rings under the fill and vent screws are to blame. Plan to change them regardless.

OR

If you have it welded w/o removing the lower unit, change the gear oil and o-rings. Then drain it after a few outings. Milky looking oil would indicate the presence of water.
