I found a iron welder that will clean the hairline crack and run a thick bead for $20-30. I pulled the manifold and can't see any signs of cracking on the inside, so it should be enough to temporarily hold me over so I can troubleshoot the outdrive.

Mahoney is not doing a repair. As he stated,he is doing a "temporary" repair to check out the rest of the rig.As long as he is careful and does not get too comfortable with the "temporary repair" he will be fine.Just remember Mahoney,it is temporary.Charlie

Correct, this is not a permanant repair for the season and ongoing. I just need to get this boat in the water and make sure I am not throwing money into a lost cause. It runs great out of water, and shifting seems to work fine into forward and reverse, but I wont know till its under load.

Mahoney, if the guy can pressure check the manifold after welding, go for it. Years ago I had one welded up, after freeze damage, and it is still in service. (well it would be if there was a motor to attach it to  )
