Hello Folks...

I have a 1988 Mercury 70HP ELPTO Outboard and proceeded to start it and the oil warning audible came on. Check my oil line from the tank to the pump and it was good, but the one from the pump to the fuel delivery pump was split and leaking. I replaced the hose with standard 3/16" clear plastic tubing and zipped tied it back up. Do I need to bleed the pump from any air that may have gotten in when I replaced the hose?. Or, should I just fire it up and let the oil run back into the line and mix with the fuel?. I turned it over a couple of times and the oil is not being pushed up into the fuel pump system. Could be cause there's no throttle being applied which opens up the pump. I was going to mix up a can of 50:1 fuel/oil mixture and run it while I get the pump line back full of oil. What are your thoughts on the solution to this problem.

Thanks in advance,

HQS

You must bleed it....mix a 50 to 1 in your tank as you bleed the system...extra oil never hurt anything...you must not run it without oil and until bled, there will be no oil..

thank you for the reply.

Yes I will be mixing a 50:1 mix in the tank and bleeding the system out. Not quite sure where the bleed screw is, but I think it's at the top of the oil pump..

Here's a couple of pics of the pump and what I think is the bleed screw.

THanks again!!
