Cracked Volvo SX Gearcase

This must be my year for Gearcases. After just replacing the gearca$e on my 200 hp outboard. I thought I'd turn my attention to my sterndrive (cabin) boat and found this.

This happened during the boat being laid up in storage, and not in the water. I ran her in freshwater before I laid her up to finish my center console project, the engine (5.7 (350) FWC) runs great, and this drive has also run great since I bought it new in 1998. ('98 Volvo Penta 5.7 GS)

I'm thinking I got some corrosion between the bearing carrier and the gearcase, it expanded, then cracked the casting. It doesn't leak oil,and the drive is still tight, but this case is on borrowed time.

This drive is an SX-C, with a 1.51 ratio, which is one I can't seem to find on the internet,.

I'm looking for a good used Freshwater unit, or someone who knows where one is.

I'd go as far as putting my gears into a another case, but I'm not sure another "SX- M or A would fit my drive.

So I'm throwin it out there, any ideas?

https://www.volvopentashop.com/epc/en-US Shows your lower gear case as 3855215. Also shows in stock. I couldn't get a price without a login.

Transferring your innards into a new case isn't the worst DIY job, but shimming the FWD pinion is a must. There is enough machining tolerance variation from housing to housing to require the step.

If the innards are still good, you can probably find a serviceable used casting on eBay. Had to do the same thing with a damaged upper and lower case on a DP-SM. You will need the proper tools and the manual to do the transfer, shimming and setup or take to a mechanic who has the tools and know how.
