Hmm... I don't see a for-sale section anywhere, so apologies if this doesn't go here.

I'm not actually selling anything, but I almost bought a boat off of craigslist that has a frozen(non winterized) motor with an OMC outdrive (why I didn't is a long story). Basically, the guy needs to get rid of it, and he's selling the boat, motor, trailer, and a working outdrive for $1500. If you are near MN,USA or can get the boat picked up, here's your chance to get a nice looking hull, drive, and trailer cheap. The seller is moving, FYI. As far as I know he won't part the boat out or deliver it.

I'm helping him get a bit more visibility because I had to back out on the deal a month ago and he still hasn't sold it. (yep, guilt)

Again, apologies if this doesn't go here.

I doubt he will get 1500 for it. the white anchor outdrive and a bad motor..:%
It would be a good parts boat.Heck i'd buy the trailer if he was close by..

$1,500.00, Seriuos Inquiries Only..!!!!!!!!Please don't waste my time...

The guy is Dreaming..........

Even being a "Pretty" hull,+ decent Trailer.......

That's a $500.00 boat,..... Maybe $1,000.00 on a Good Day, with a Buyer who Doesn't Know Squat about Boats........
If he parted it out Himself,.... Then he'd get his $1,500.00,.... Probably More......

The "pretty" hull don't mean squat. Still could have rotted floor and stringers.Along with a no good engine i would give him 300 for the trailer...

Are we being rude and arrogant?? Yep,typical Iboater...8)8)

I won't say you're being rude, but maybe pessimistic :)

From my previous conversations with him I got the impression that there's no rot in the hull, and he was using the boat recently, so the motor is the only problem with it.

But I expect whomever bought it would need to inspect it to verify what he says. I was just thinking that if someone needed replacement parts for an OMC outdrive this might be a good deal.

Also, even if the hull is only a shell with rotten wood, it's still a pretty shell with a decent trailer... I've seen people on these forums that started with much worse boats and made 'em real nice. :)

Re: Craigslist boat with OMC drive

The problem is that anything with an older OMC stringer is a hard sell, no matter what the condition, and even at a very low price, it's a whole lotta work to repower it with newer power, so he's going to be waiting a long time.....

Re: Craigslist boat with OMC drive

OMC first used the 4.3 in 1985 and they were painted silver, so that's a 3.8 which would be correct for 1983.
If it wasn't winterized at all, the exh. manifolds are history. I have the last new OMC set on this planet and I'd "think" about selling them if someone waved $1200 under my nose. And that's about 2/3 of the OMC msrp price....so find out if the manifolds got drained at all....if the manifolds were drained the boat becomes a completely different prospect in a fresh water neighbourhood like yours.

All that said, and while were cheating on the advert thing... I have a reman short block 3.8 with .030 over NEW pistons and all new bearings, rods, std. crank for $750 (add $50 for brass freeze plugs installed), and I have good used manifolds too. If you're feeling guilty, follow through with the guy and for minor investment I can have you in the water in that nice boat. That sounded corny - I'm no salesman .. haha

Re: Craigslist boat with OMC drive

A boat with a non-working engine is a VERY tough sell, at any price. Even if someone feels they can re-power it for a reasonable cost, most will assume that the baot was not well cared for. One BIG problem of neglect usually means more! The pictures of it sitting in the woods looking messy don't help.

For $1,000 he may find someone who wants to part it out or re-power it if the floor is absolutely without soft spots. ANY soft spots and forget it for a rebuild unless basically free.

Re: Craigslist boat with OMC drive

It's not meant to be an ad, but if it's considered one then the whole thread could be nuked.

There's no chance of me buying the boat at this point... I've got a 22' Sea Ray to work on already at this point, and I never should have gotten into the deal as far as I did in the first place.

It sounds like most people here wouldn't touch it, which is fine... maybe the seller will find someone who will pay his price and be happy, who knows....

Re: Craigslist boat with OMC drive

my advice is still to check the manifolds and say in the ad if they are good. It takes about 60 seconds to check them - they will be cracked with fine rusty lines around the fattest area towards the rear of each. Or they crack lengthwise in line with the drain fitting.
I drove 2 hours last year to look at a similar boat that said "needs engine" (caravelle cuddy like Kagee's). I climbed into it, lifted the engine hatch, saw the cracks and walked back to my car and drove home 2 hours.
