Crank pulley play

Hey guys first off love the forum tons of info! I have a 1990 Larson San Marino 25ft 5.7 Volvo duo prop aq 290.

2 questions
1. I have a metal to metal contact rubbing noise that is intermittent coming from bell housing near starter. I felt starter during running and I feel no rub, if I feel the housing near there the vibration is the strongest. It is not a very loud noise and the motor runs pretty normal despite this. The boat is runnable and the noise is barely noticeable with the deck on. Previous owner overheated from a cracked water intake on drive so I replaced both bellows when I fixed that. There was gear lube on the shafts/splines and surfaces inside and everything looked good no signs of water intrusion. I greased u joints, these had good movement and felt solid. Also shaft going inside had no play in it.

2. The crankshaft seems to have a wobble. This has the raw water pump mounted to crank. I placed a dial indicated on the balancer and pulley and the movement seems to be the same raw water pump also has slight back n forth movement. No play when moved by hand, put pry bar in between to test out balancer bushing and it seems to be in good condition. It's not leaking oil here. I'm leaning towards a bent balancer/pulley.(maybe hit during engine r&r?) It is NOT throwing belts but the movement is noticeable while running. Obviously under higher rpms the movement is masked and not as noticeable.

thanks for any help and if this has been answered in the past please direct me to it, I searched but couldn't find any problems the same as mine. I read on the intermediate bearings being bad, however I'm not showing any signs of water intrusion. This was typed sitting on my engine bay ledge on my cell phone so please excuse any grammar errors.

welcome aboard.

please post the full engine model, however for 1990

you shouldnt get wobble on the pulley or the hub, however if the damper is wobbling, time to replace it. if the hub has run-out, your crank is bent.

crank snout should be true (acceptable run-out is less than 0.002")
damper hub is press fit on the crank
pulley is bolted to face of damper hub and is sandwiched by the raw water pump flange

the metal to metal noise may be the PDS bearings are shot and you need to replace them. your PDS housing would need to come out to replace them. this means that the drive comes off and the motor comes out.
