Sounds like it's time to rebuild the Carbs! Something in the Carb is stopping fuel from getting to #1 & #2. Could be float needle is sticking! Try rapping on the float bowl with a screwdriver handle next time you try to start it. If it starts and runs good, it's time to rebuild the Carbs! You can get rebuild kit's from your Dealer.

I guess I should have asked, Did it run good before? Has it been sitting for long? Compression Checked? More info please!

Re: crank won't start

I bought boat motor & trailer about a month ago .the owner said he had it in the water two weeks before ,engine was rebuilt and starter was being rebuilt. I picked up starter and put it in, first thing found was ignition fuse blown. I replaced fuse, also replaced solenoid, checked spark which I have. did not do compression check. even drained fuel & put new feul in.the other day I got it running for about a minute it was running to fast turned it off then back were I started. crank but won't start.

sometimes a discharged battery can cause this.
enough juice to crank, but not enough to start.
try jumping it from car battery. if it starts
right up, it's the battery.
even brand new batteries can be under-charged
off the shelf.
