1996 evinrude 115 hp. the dowel pin in the crankcase that fits into the race for the main bearing on the crankshaft has been pushed flush. how do I get it out and/or replaced?
Or drill through it with 1/8" drill.------Fill with oil.-----Use the drill bit shank and grease to " jack " it out.-----Small hammer on that drill shank develops plenty of pressure.-----Any damage done to the bearing / crankshaft due to this small error ??
doesn't look like any damage. A machine shop told me to drill a small hole into the side of the crank case at the bottom of the dowel and tap it until it comes up. That sound like I could ruin the block. Is that dowel hardened? how hard to drill down the center?
Well -----We are saying to use a drill.-----So rest assured I have done that job with the oil / jack method to remove that dowel !!----I sure doubt that your " machine shop " has done this simple procedure.
I gotta say this is the first time I've heard of the oil jack method. Learn something every day, they say. But yeah, I've pulled them out. Never saw one too hard to drill. Unless BRP saw fit to change them in recent years.
