I know there are upper and lower crank seals but is there supposed to be a gasket between the crank case and block? If not do you use any sealer or just torque it down?

Punch in your model # to google and it will link you to websites selling OEM parts. Go to one of them and it will be microfiches with exploded engine views. You will see the gasket there if one is required.

Are you asking about whether there is sealer between the two halves of the crankcase? That sealer is called gel-seal, part number 324073
