Cranking problems, 1998 volvo penta 5.0 gl

engine crank's real hard like the timing is off, i've had the timing checked twice, pulled the plug's to check for water in cylinder's, they are fine, and i have a new battery. any idea,s what to check next? it doesn,t crank hard every time that i start it. thank's

I would clean and check ALL connections, Ground and positive. I would also pull starter and bring it it any auto parts store and have it checked. I think you could have a either bad connections or bad starter

Has your starter been wet recently? Sounds like you simply have an internal short in the starter. I would be looking to replace or rebuild.
