I need to know what the cranking voltage should be off the stator wires on a 86 90hp merc. Thanks

Re: Cranking voltage

 Help, I still need tech info on this subject! Any ideas. Also, what is the proper way to trouble shoot a ignition switch on a merc "commander" type control box? I don't want to blow another rectifier. Thanks

Re: Cranking voltage

Ok here's the deal. Took the boat out and hooked up new radio shack rectifier to the two yellow wires coming off the stator and left the red wire that comes off the positive side unhooked. I show a reading of 99 volts ac when at wot when I ohm out the two yellow wires. The boat runs perfect until I shut her down and hook up the red lead and she falls flat on her face at wot! This red wire goes right to the key switch. Does this tell me that my key switch is bad? Thanks
