I recently bought 1995 88 SPL. Ran perfect during test run one month ago.
Brought it home, did the water pump and spark plugs. Put the lower unit back on and noticed shrader valve was cracked. Replaced it with no issue.

Now the problem, the motor is cranking and cranking and not firing. I doubt the power pack broke in between buying it and now.
Whats going on?

If you have a tether switch make sure that is hooked up. Next thing to check for spark. Should jump 7/16" open air gap.

Kill switch is in.
The service manual says 1/2" gap so I will purchase a tester and try the plug wires then the wire running to the powerpack.

Is there a neutral safety switch that would allow the starter to crank but not engage the ignition system?

The neutral safety switch comes into play if the motor is in gear. It keeps it from starting in gear.

make sure the kill switch engager is ...well engaged..it usually is on a laynard..

if it is in, wiggle it and see if that makes the motor fire over

if that doesnt work, take all the plugs out and try and check for spark again....and make sure the battery is freshly charged.

the motor has to turn a minimum rpm to make the spark and it might sound fast, but in reality it isnt FAST ENOUGH...

that may be true if your battery ran down since you last started the motor...or have a different battery.

As a follow up, it seems the above deck fuel tank got full of water. The gas in the filter was good but as soon as it started to draw from the tank it was garbage.
I ran the engine on a spare tank and it fired right up.
Fun part was dumping out 28 gallons of fuel. Now to try to get rid of it.

Let it settle and syphon the water away, run it through your cars.

If it will run your car, it will run your boat. If it will not run your boat, it will not run your car.
