Gentlemen,
can anyone out there tell me why on the parts diagram, (1991 Johnson model J70TLEIE) 70 hp. Why do they not show a crankshaft bearing part or number on the second crankshaft journal. I have looked on all the parts diagrams I can find and none of them show a part or part number. In the service manual, they say that the crankshaft journals to be different sizes, so wouldn't the bearing and split sleeve be a different part or number?

Thanks Steve:eek:

The connecting rod journals of the crankshaft are all the same size. The main bearing journals are another matter.

Notice in the parts manual, the bearing assembly (cage w/needles) is #388344 and it lists the quanity as three (3). For reference, 388344 supersedes up to #437088.

What service manual are you using?

Missread your post, I was thinking connecting rod journals, you were speaking of the main bearing journals, sorry. The center main journals (2) are the same size.

15 & 16 are the bearing and split race. The problem is that 15 & 16 are only shown for the 3rd main crankshaft journal and nothing is shown for the second main journal. In the service manual in says that the second and third mains are of different sizes. How can the same bearing for the second journal be the same for the third if the journals are different sizes? DUH on me!! So let me see if I understand.

!. Top bearing = Top journal
2. The two center bearing = Center journal (even though its not plural)
3. Bottom journal = bottom bearing (pressed-on)
4. Crankpin = Rod journal

Yes, you got it. For ease of viewing, duplicate parts are not shown.

The center main bearings.... split sleeve, split bearing.... these are the same size.
