1996 Yam 90 hp. would not crank.
Took most of day to trouble shoot down to brown wire that leads to start relay. Ran a wire from connector plug at keyswitch to brown wire connecter plug at start solenoid. Crank OK. So I assumed that somewhere in harness the brown wire is broken. Plan was to just run another wire in place of broken wire Just for the heck of it I followed brown wire from solenoid to see if I could find a break or bad connection. Lo and Behold it led me to some kind of push button switch on starboard side of engine near shifter and throttle cables. Damn book had no mention of this switch in the cranking system. Taped it closed and engine cranked.

I guess moral of story is that Clymer manuals are very poor substitute for factory manuals.

Anybody know what that switch is for? It was getting dark and no-seeums were getting me.

RBC

moral of the story is you did not read or understand how the dang system works.
its a nuetral start switch. either your shift adjustment is off or the switch is bad.
fix it but dont blame the manual.
good thing my technical skills are better than my spelling :)

you are correct I did not understsand manual. i thought only neutral stasrt switch was located in throttle lever system, now I know that there is another neutral start switch in the engine.
