OK, not sure if I should post this here or in Resto., but I'll start here. Mods, move if you see fit.
I'm one phone call away from buying a 20.5' 1969 Aztec. A name nobody seems to know, but after looking at the boat, I'm ok with it. It is a 2 owner boat, the guy that has it now bought it as part of a planned business venture that never came to fruition, and has only owned it 4 months. He has all the paperwork and receipts going back to 1969, including the original bill of sale.
Boat looks way better then I expected. Looks like a well cared for boat that over time became too much for the original owner (now in a wheelchair) to keep and use. He did use it in his wheelchair though (another story).
Engine is no longer the original OMC, but is now a Chevy 350, with the original Volvo 280 (230?) outdrive. Fired up on first turn of the key, and sounded smooth. Solid floors, solid transom, lots of safety upgrades (built-in fire supression system, Mercathode Static Control, and other stuff), complete with all original equip/access., and upgrades like stereo and VHF.
Ok, so my only concern is there was a fair amount of crazing in the gel coat. I'm 90% sure it was the gel, and not the paint. Worst was near the front eye, which I figure was from loading on the trailer a little too aggressively. That was also the only area that should evidence of the hull hitting something. Other areas throughout the boat had crazing, but not everywhere. Is this more of an aging thing, or is this something that will require massive repair? At this point, this boat would be a temporary boat, to get me out of my crappy 16' bowrider until next year when the Admiral wants to really step up to a newer larger boat.
Price for this boat is $1500.
