crazy Idle

1991 70 hp Johnson The last two times I have used to boat it starts and runs great idles great, but after a 4-5 mile run back to the ramp it doesn't want to idle, rpms only like 650 usually aroung 850. These rpms are with it in gear. Recently ran some OMC engine tuner and changed plugs champions gapped at .040. The primer key will bump it up???? Thanks!!

Sounds like you either have a carb with a slightly blocked iddle circuit, that kicks in and out at warm iddle, or your fuel pump is getting tired and isnt able to keep pressure up when iddling, causing upper cylinder to run lean at iddle.

Its usually 850 in gear? We need to fix that asap. That needs to come down considerably to the 650 or so in gear so we dont wear out the engagement lugs on the dog and gear. At 650 itll be much easier to shift out of gear also.
