Was at the lake this weekend and witnessed something crazy. This fella was really gettin it on one of them jet ski's, and he decided to make a sharp turn. When he did, he proceeded to fly off of the jet ski and tumble end over end through the water. He ended up about 30 feet from his jet ski. We were anchored and swimming when it happened. I told the wife and kids to get in the boat, so we could see if this fella was ok. By the time we got in the boat, he was already back on the jet ski, and gettin it in the other direction. I don't see how he kept from breaking his neck. Some of them guys get a little crazy on them jet ski's. Looked like something you would see on some reality TV program.

They all act like they are nuts, and operate in a very dangerous fshion on our lake. I would like too see the statistics, just how many persons are badly injured, and/or killed on them. They are jet propelled, so I imagine when they are throttled down, motor dies, or cavitates there is absolutely no steering. :D :D

I think thats why most of us hate Jetskis. It's not the machine, but some of the idiots who ride them. I'm being generous when I say "some". It seems like you must have to be a certified mental case to even be able to buy one.

Re: Crazy Jet-skier

When I am in PA and running EMS, I would say about 50% of the calls we have to the lake are for personal water craft. My guess is that less then 10% of the watercraft on the lake are personal. So, go figure!?!?!

(However, they are fun :D ! Everybody needs to be an idiot sometime, right

Here in Ky, we call them jerk skis, cause that's about all that rides them.

Notice I said just about.

Saw one once tear off WOT through a big stumpfield. He rode around doing donut's and figure eights in that stump field for about half an hour with me and other fisherman watching in disbelief. He actually did not hit anything, wipe out or otherwise look worse the wear when he left the field heading across the lake. I think sometimes God watches out for insane people.

Re: Crazy Jet-skier

I got this out of Websters Dictionary... (not really) :D

Jet*Ski - rid*er ( jetski rider ) n. 1. One who throws caution to the wind while manuvering in circles at high speed on jet propelled plastic machine always leaving his/her brains at the dock with their trailer and tow vehicle. see Idiot, Jerk skis, Dip S***, and several other colorful descriptions too numerous to mention.

I took a ride on one once.. It was fun for about a minute, that was it... I said "this is it? This is what all the hipe's about? riding around real fast in circles? it's boaring, here, you can have yer toy back now, I'm done"...

I'm 58 yrs old and heard the same crap from fisherman and "pleasure boaters" in the early '50s when we all started water skiing. In fact some of the lakes around where I grew up were closed to water skiing. A funny thing about a lot of people, they just can't stand to see someone having more fun than they are. Incidentally, I own 2 sit downs and 2 stand ups and at no time do I exceed the speed of a 300 hp bass boat.

Re: Crazy Jet-skier

jrihyper, I think you've got it wrong. Most of us do not object to someone having more perceived fun than ourselves, but we object to the fact that the majority of jetski riders intrude on my ability to have fun. I'm talking about the constant droning noise of someone circling mindlessly in one spot, I'm talking about jumping my wake dangerously close to my boat, I'm talking about riding my wake, following my boat a few feet off while I'm at speed, I'm talking about passing close to moored boats at speed, I'm talking about endangering my life by playing in the turbulance created by the river entering the surf while I'm trying to launch to sea. This list can go on and on.

Re: Crazy Jet-skier

We in Ky do not cul people by age groups.

If you are a jerk, then you are a jerk, don't matter what age you are and that is about all I see in Ky, when I am sitting fishing and they come flying past me and don't just go on, they turn around and come back, once.

They don't come back a second time after a 1oz. egg sinker bounces off their toy.

Act like a jerk, get treated like a jerk.

Like was stated before, they leave their brain at the dock and have total dis-reguard for other people's property or safety.

I'm done with this one before I get started and say something I don't want to.

The only thing lower than a jet skier, is a lawyer. If you put a lawyer on jet a jetsky, then you really have a low life. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Re: Crazy Jet-skier

I figure my ride is a little bigger, so I have the right of way. :D
For the most part, they don't bother me too much. They tend to stay in the unlimited speed zone, which is fine by me when i'm fishing.

Re: Crazy Jet-skier

I was riding one once, got to goofing around with a boat, got hit with a large water balloon. Wont do that again. Now I always carry afew nice fat water baloons on the boat with my. haven't had to use them yet but they make quite an impact when you get hit in the face with one while passing a boat at 50+ mph.

My favorite fishing hole wont allow them on the
water. Its a good thing for me cause I'd still be
in jail for something I might have done if I
could get my hands on them. :p

Re: Crazy Jet-skier

JriHyper, All that stand-up sit-down stuff is fine. But if you're ever on the Caloosahatchee, and you see some old feller in a Bayliner fishing, I'd advise you not to get within castin-distance of him or his boat.

There is room for all of us sane folks out there, but I have no sympathy for ignoarnce or dangerous operation. They tend to get far worse than what's comming to them without intervention anyhow.

What angers me on any busy weekend, is the water t*rds that insist on wake-making/jumpint when I'm fishing. The River is 60 miles long, and half to one mile wide. Why dont they do that crazy stuff a mile away where there are no fishing boats??

And like S.B.N. , I'm done with this one before I say something I ought not.
