i had a roommate for about 4 months when one night he called the house and said he had been arrested. a while later i got a letter from him explaining he had been sent to prison for 33 years for car jacking his ex girlfriend at gun point and riding around with her in the trunk. he asked me to take care of his dog and in return i could keep/sell/trash everything he had left behind. this guy used to race hydroplanes up in michigan. im looking at a 4 cylinder inline merc with a crazy little 10 inch shaft and a prop so small it almost looks like it a toy. the mounting bracket - where i understand the serial numbers should be- is obviously some aftermarket or fabricated aluminum race set up. the block itself has the words " full jeweled thunderbolt" and the numbers 8081320. i have no idea what year this thing is or even what horse power it makes, was hoping some of you fine folks could help me out. ~ angus
ps. my ex room mate stopped writing me after i explained his dog had died after three years in my care. he aint been any help at all.

Hi Angus.

DHadley might recognize that engine from your description. He will be along sooner or later.

In the meantime, www.screamandfly.com might be of some help.

Good luck. :)

If that is the serial number, it is incorrect. According to those numbers the engine is a 2.2hp

TMD

agreed TMD , that 8081320 is in the wrong location to be read as serial numbers, and i do believe that particular series of numbers would identify the motor as a early to mid 80's 2.2 as you had pointed out. pure sadness...

i just took some pictures of this puzzling old merc with my lady friends digital camera and i have them available for anybody who would like to see them. take a guess at what it is? well, it should atleast be good for a chuckle or two... her email is " gr33dysmurf@aol.com " you fella's can hit me there and ill reply with snapshots of this nutty looking old motor. thanks for the help you guys ~Angus
