I have a nice, good running 7.5 hp boat motor. the outside has a few scratches but its from putting it in and out my truck. runs good, prop is in good shape. comes with a metal gas can and fuel line. it would be a good kicker motor or for a small fishing boat
Seems like a good deal but I don't know a whole lot about the older Mercury outboards. Are the older mercury outboards known for having problems?

I've always stuck with Johnson/Evinrude motors from the 50s and 60s and they have always been very reliable.

Does $550 seam like a good deal for this motor?

Personally that seems extremely overpriced to me. I may be wrong, but I've seen merc 40's, 50's, 65's, 80's, all for around 500-800 for "good running" motors with titles and controls. Thats a little bitty thing. If it was in much better aesthetic condition, and he specified whether or not it had a title, it might be worth that much. But I wouldnt want to give any more than about 250 for that thing.

I talked him down to $300 (started at $225). I haven't payed for it so I'll be sure to ask before I hand anything over.
