Crosman P-10 CO2 pistol...

Bought one to try to discourage the mourning doves from tossing the sunflowers out of the bird feeder. (Eat one, push two dozen onto the ground; repeat, ad infinitum)

The thing shot fine for about the first fifteen BBs, then began to misfeed. Finally I estimate it took about 100 trigger pulls to get the next 20 BBs through the thing.

Looked on-line and found many extremely disgusted people posting about this issue and others related to the pistol's magazine.

I cleaned the magazine with Q-tips and silicone lube and it operates as advertised - for the time being at least. Still other issues with the magazine, but the misfeed was the worst as it made the pistol into a paperweight.

So I'm here to ask if anyone has dealt successfully with these issues. (i.e., mourning doves emptying a large feeder in two days, CO2 pistol that won't work right)

Doves prefer to feed on the ground. Put them some food down there and they should leave the feeder alone.

Get the good old daisy 10 pump. You can give it a few pumps if you just want to ding them or a few more pumps if you want them 6 below.

It's probably a good thing your pistol is misfiring if you're shooting at Mourning Doves.

Birds are eating the birdseed. Isn't that what's supposed to happen?

drr, they're tossing much more onto the ground than they're eating - literally. Even the squirrels, of which there are many around here, can't keep up, and the sunflower seeds are piling up and getting moldy. I'm talking about a feeder that will hold about three pounds of sunflower on one side and the same in finch feed on the other. These doves are screwing everybody. Reminds me of the hordes of grackles I had years ago that did the same thing.

I'm not trying to kill them. I wouldn't be using a CO2 pistol if I were. Just trying to make them sufficiently uncomfortable that they'll find other food sources. In fact, it appears to be working, as I've got fewer of them than I had a few weeks ago, when they were dominating the feeder.

Sorry bird lovers. I love 'em too. That's why I spend about $20 a month year 'round feeding them. I'm not going to let one breed ruin it all.

Just saying it's not legal to even shoot at them. They are a federally protected species and can only be hunted in season.

Sorry but I've killed squirrels with a Crossman C02. That will definitly kill doves. The problems I had with that pistol was seating the cylinder. Never could get a cartridge not to leak.

My mom prefers a wrist rocket and ice cubes to discourage the squirrels at the bird feeder. Lots of fun for the grand kids, maybe it'll work on the doves

I put cracked corn on the ground. Just throw it out like feeding chickens. The Doves spend a lot less time at my feeders and a lot more time on the ground eating. And,,,,,,cracked corn is cheap compared to sunflower seeds.
