Changed the coupler, new coupler came with new yoke with o ring groove. I figured I would change both u joints unless It's a total pain in the rear. Anybody ever try changing these without pulling the shaft out? I have the tools spanner wrench etc. I changed all the seals, o rings and gaskets a few years ago in the drive because it wouldn't holding pressure, but I never broke down the drive gear and bearing assembly. Looking for the easiest way out. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

If ya changed all the seals, you had to have removed the gear from the shaft to get at the upper seal. If ya didn't when you did everthing else, now would be a good time to do it. Other than that,I've seen where people grind the ears off the big nut a tad to get clearance for changing the joints.

I would not mess with the drive if it's good. I'd take off the cross nearest the drive first. Then take the remaining bits to my bench and service the other 6 points. Easiest way is with a ball joint press, but you can also just drive them out with sockets and a hammer while using a sturdy metal base on which to set your cross pieces.
Buy the way the book says nothing about the socket positioning. So you can put it back on at any angle.
