Crossover Boats?

Straight to the point: I am looking for a boat narrower than a jon/rowboat boat with a V-Hull front but wider & more stable than a canoe for the river I mentioned in a previous post. Is there such a thing as a row boat canoe crossover boat? Not interested in a Drift Boat (from what I've seen can't really put a motor on one). I already know about Whitehall Skiffs. I was looking for something similar but in aluminum. Also, can you stand up to fish in one of those Whitehall Skiffs & can it handle a small outboard motor? A 4' wide jon boat won't fit in the back of my S-10 pickup with a 6' bed (cap too) & most aluminum rowboats are also too wide & too heavy to carry solo for a distance (no public launch or beach). Thanks in advance

You talking about something like a motor canoe?

Re: Crossover Boats?

gheenoe makes the square stern

also look at some custom built skiffs like Chincoteague Scow, or other marsh boats

I considered those & then someone I know mentioned "Canoe Stabilizers" as well. Don't know how well those work out & if they get in the way when fishing.

42" wide, should be plenty stable on its own unless you are doing jumping jacks. When I was a kid we used to fish from one of those huge coleman plastic canoes and it wasn't quite as wide as this one. It was plenty stable even with a couple of us kids bouncing around in it.

Coleman scanoes ( transomed) are great - we have used them for years.and can take more of a beating than the aluminum ones. Just my opinion

Grumman made a wonderful boat almost exactly as you describe. They called it a Sport Boat. Don't know if they still make it.

Zodiac also makes some great little boats in a bag. We have used them in the past for work, lightweight and easy to ship/carry

Grumman Sport Boats always fetch top dollar, for good reason.

I have a 13' Gheenoe with a 5HP Nissan on it. You can't carry it solo. It has a list weight of 130 lbs. It seems heavier. Once in the water it is great. It paddles easy and with the 5 HP motor is runs about 13 mph with a moderate load of 2 young kids and one adult. It is perfect for use on rivers.

I have loaded mine into the back of my truck myself a couple of times now. It is doable, however, you need to be able to drag/push it on "soft" ground. It is fiberglass so you wouldn't want to drag it on gravel or cement or anything. I don't think a person of average strength would every be able to carry the boat alone.
