Crossover Garmin GPS: Which model?

I'm definitely buying Garmin - I have a dealer relationship with them from my company. However, I'm new to boating and have been told by many to get a good GPS system.

I'd like to get a mounted one that is portable or crossover (is that possible?) - only so that I have a bigger screen to work with and use in my car. Do any of you have any recommendations? I'm trying not to spend over $800. That budget should be inclusive of whatever added maps I might need. I'm in the San Diego area.

I have a Garmin 276C. There must be a current model that has the same features but I doubt that $800 is going to cover all the options, like the auto nav kit and the optional software.

For what it is worth, I love it.
