I've heard good things about Crownline boats, but the NADI pricing has got them really low. Anyone have a guess? I'm shopping for a 1995 250 CR which averages about $22,000 on boatrader, but NADI and BUCS retail them about $16,000. Are there problems with boats? Just want to be informed.

Re: Crownline has no resale value?

I had a 1992 250 CR that I bought brand new. I sold it 3 years ago for $17,500, so the $16000 doesn't sound that far off for an average 1995.

If the boats you are looking at have been kept in the water, make sure to check the stringers and transom very carefully. The center stringer on mine rotted completely out and also rotted the mid cabin floor which was attached to it. You can get a good look at this stringer by opening the access hatch under the bed in the mid cabin. Make sure you do this! Also, I was not impressed with the gelcoat Crownline used (at least in 1992). It did not hold up well and oxidized very badly. I kept it reasonably well waxed, but the colors and topside chalked up completely.

Re: Crownline has no resale value?

wetcat, In 1998 Crownline started using XL wood in their boats which holds up very well and better than the wood in pre-1998 boats. As far as resale, I sold my 1998 202BR this spring for $5500 less than I paid for it new. I could have easily gotten more for it but I didn't have room in the driveway for 2 Crownlines. My next boat will be another Crownline. :D
