Hey all,

I am looking at buying a used bowrider for more of a "speedboat" so that I can use my pontoon as what it should be used for and putt-putt around and relax in it.

I am looking at 2000-up Glastrons, Bayliner Capri's, Sea-Rays, and Larsons. A friend of mine told me he has a 1998 Crownline 21' 210-CCR that he would sell me, even though its not "for sale." He recently put a brand new 5.7L in it (only about 35hrs on it), and when he did he took apart the lower end and checked all the seals, etc. I turned the key and it started right up...sounds amazing. He has also recently bought a new RoadRunner trailer with removable tounge that would be included. The fiberglass is all perfect with no dings or gashes...the paint could use a good buff job which, but again no scratches or paint damage. I can get a nice buff job done for free, so I'm not worried about that at all.

The only place that I would need to invest some $$ is the upholstery, which I would probably just take it to the local upholstery shop and have him redo it all. Accompanied with a buff, this boat should be super nice and run like a racehorse. This guy told me this huge boat would hit almost 65mph with the 5.7L chevy 350 he installed.

My question to y'all (Texan word LOL) is would this boat be worth $6500 as it sits? I would probably have to Bust Out Another Thousand (B.O.A.T.) on the upholstery, but NADA tells me that with an original motor this boat should be worth $7500-8500. I assume with a new motor and new upholstery and upgraded trailer it would be considerably higher.

Any help is appreciated! -Blake

Re: Crownline Value

1. It won't do 65mph with that motor.
2. It's worth the price if you think itis
3. He must not have taken very good care of it if engine needed to be
replaced and upholstery is shot already.
4. Have the engine checked by a mechanic, and hull surveyed for any
"hidden" problems that may cause you to bring out even more thousands.
5. Look at a used Four Winns or Monterey that has been taken care of.

50-53 MPH boat.

New engine? Installed properly? Was this a truly new, fresh-out-of-box motor?

Who did the work?

Boat worries: Floor and stringer rot (since it was exposed to weather).

It absolutely will not buff right up. Can the gel be sanded, and treated to a series of treatments to freshen 'er up? Gotta see pics. But trust me, it (faded gel) won't just buff right up. It might never look good again w/out lots of cash and time.

Tell him you'll pay the asking price, if he pays you 1,000 bucks for every M.P.H. short of 65 it tops out at.

Best idea I've ever seen for buying a boat and getting the seller to put up or shut up! In this case, he'll end up paying you about $5,000 to take the boat .....

Couple of things to think about:

A 210 CCR is a cuddy cabin. Front of the boat is going to be useless and BRUTALLY hot in Texas summer.

Crownline started using XL treated wood with a lifetime warranty (original owner) in 1998. You still need to get someone who knows what they are doing to check for soft spots. I believe the 210's had "hull-in-hull" (fiberglass sandwich floor) construction in 1998, but I'm not sure.

Re: Crownline Value

1. Yeah I was a bit sceptical about the 60+ speed thing...but he assures me it will do that. I wouldn't mind taking a ride to see ...
2. I know it is worth the price that I THINK it is...what I was more concerned with is the price that the BANK thinks it is worth LOL
3. The previous owner didn't winterize it, so the block was cracked. This guy DOES know what he is talking about as far as engines/functionality is concerned...I took my friend who knows engines very well and he verified that this guy knows his stuff he has maintained his new (yes brand new) engine and the lower unit very well.
4. This isn't a cabin cruiser...he must have given me the wrong model. It is a bowrider.
5. I think there is a Glastron I am more interested in, so all this doesn't matter anyways LOL

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP THOUGH!!!!!!
