Started my 1987 OMC V4 the other day on the trailer with the hose on the muff. The water pressure comming out of the pisser was weak (has been weak for a while). After a bit the horn went off and I shut it down. I took the cover off and it was hot. Sooo water pump time - it has been about 5 years.

I have an air compressor that puts out about 120 psi and an unrestricted air gun. I would like to blow air through the system both through the pisser and water pick-up tube before reinstalling the lower unit. Is there anything in the cooling system that could be harmed by blowing this high pressure air through??

I replaced the thermostats about 6 months ago. I have not pulled the heads or exhaust cover to clean any salt water crud and would rather not do that unless the new water pump does not keep it at operating temp.

SoLittle, won't hurt to blow the air. But probably won't do much good. Any crud or deposits built up in the water passages won't be dislodged. Best thing is to run it in fresh water for a while and let the fresh water clean out any deposits that may be there. If you trailer your boat, after ever trip to salt water, flush the engine out in fresh water. This will help deter the corrosive effects of salt water. You can run the engine on motor flushers in the drive way.
