Crusader Classic 2004 5.7 litre - Engine Shuts off after 5-7 minutes.
Confusing...

The engine starts easily when cold and idles nicely. Also, revs up to 4000 easily. However after 5-7 minutes of running it just shots down. Doesn't matter whether it is idling or up at higher RPM's. It does this without fail. I wait about 30 to 45 minutes and then it starts. However the process happens all over again.

Feels electrical. ANY SUGGESTIONS ANYONE?? I'm STUMPED!

My son has a '67 Ford mustang with a 302. It did the same thing. I replaced the points and condensor. Now it runs like a top.

Problem is, my crusader doesn't look like it has points or condensor etc.
Inside the Distributor it has "Mallory Breakerless Ignition module".

Could this Module be the problem?
Could the coil be bad and shutting down once it gets warm?

Checked the fuel filter. Seems fine. No water.
Checked the fuel supply. Seems fine and steady.

Anybody experienced this same problem? I would appreciate any advice.
If I get my mechanic involved. It's gonna start at $200 and go up from there!

Thanks in advance........

Thanks for the reply. I had a sneaking suspicion it might be electrical. At this point, a new coil is the least expensive first step and easy to replace.
I'll start there this afternoon and then post my success or continued frustration. As my father used to say, "It's gotta be something, right?"... "One step at a time...eventually you'll run out of things to replace"... "Just be patient". Brilliant and Simple... but good advice.

Re: Crusader Classic 2004 5.7 litre - Engine Just Shuts off after 5-7 minutes!?

Picked up some parts on my way to work yesterday morning. Worked all day. On my way home from the office I replaced the Coil, Distributor Cap and Rotor - in my business clothes. Didn't get one oil spot on my outfit!

Engine fired up with a little coaxing and I let it run about 10 minutes. Turned it off. Fired it up again and let it run another 5 minutes. Didn't want to jinx it so I went and got some burgers for the grill.

Went back to the Marina late after dinner with my handy helper (my 9 year old son) and we fired it up and let it run for about 10 minutes again. Long story short... it just keeps running... now. Good temp, voltage, oil pressure etc. Guess the coil was the problem! I've decided not to sell the boat after all..... this week anyway!
Thanks for the suggestion livysdaddy! Maybe we'll actually go boating this weekend. You have a great one, I'm outa here ;}
