i have a 1973 70hp evinrude, model number is 70673d. i have 3 carbs, all 3 have what lookes like, a adjusting screw on the top center of all three. the deal is all 3 screws are seated, and go down in a hole tight, can someone tell me what they are for and what they do??? there are no more adjusting screws on my carbs except those.. thanks

I believe that the '73 on up did not have ajustable carbs. The slot is from a screw head that covers the fixed idle jet.

Thunder.... Seahorse is correct. The carbs are not adjustable. The screw you speak of is simply a air block that covers the fixed brass slow speed jet and it must be seated firmly. Same holds true for a 1976 70hp model.

If you want a general repair manual, click the "Repair Manuals" icon in the lower lefthand corner of this page. You'll have a choice of either Clymer or Seloc. If you want the oem manual go here:

OEM Manuals

c/6

Hooty

Lets keep in mind we are working with a 1976 70 hp not a 1973 65.

Dhadley's right. There are no '73 70hp engines, just 65hp. Your model number checkes out as a '76 70hp.
