hi folks, i have a 1986 bonito 16.5 foot center console fishing boat and i hate the console thats in it now. its old, has a million holes, some very large, and is way too big for this floor plan. i would like to make my own but would like some input from the fella's...

i was thinking bout building it outa 1/2 ply wood and once finished, i would coat the entire thing with penetraiting epoxy and then paint it white... how does that sound?

any input would be exceptionally helpfull

thanks

Re: custom built console.. how to???

I built one a few years back for a 14' wooden boat out of 1/2" good plywood with mahogany trim. Like Crabby says, it was the trim that made it look finished and like it was built by somebody who actually knew what they were doing [usually not me]. The epoxy saturation is a good idea, followed by lots of coats of marine varnish if you like the wood look or paint if you want it to match your boat. Good luck.
