I have a doghouse engine cover.. my seats on both sides are getting a little rough. The one is actually cracked from a big guy standing on it, the other one has a small rip. I'm thinking about buying some fold down style seats as replacements and just removing the original seat backs aswell.. I'd have to do a little extra work to make this happen. Just looking for opinions or if anyone has ever done this I'd love to see pictures.

Are both top and bottom cushions removeable? If so, you can mount a folding seat to a piece of plywood that matches the dimensions of the bottom seat cushion board, and add back in any locating piece of wood.

I used some plastic decking "wood" when I did this for my boat. Worked pretty well. The old cushions were rotting away and I really wanted some better looking jump seats back there. The original old square cushions on mine were designed to remove and mount higher to fill in from side to side and make a sun pad but I was not interested in keeping that functionality. The available aftermarket jump seats with boxes would make it hard to access the battery and bilge pump , etc. I wanted to keep the configuration from the original so that was my solution. I got some good looking comfortable seats for the price of one boxed jump seat and can still reach under them or even take them out for full access.

I do not have any pics, sorry. I will be working on the boat this weekend I hope and can post pics if anyone is interested.

By the way, mine look almost exactly like the one used for the icon for Boat Seats at the top of the web pages here.

I have those "jump seats" on either side of the doghouse on mine as well, they are a little tattered and no one sits there as it's noisy by the engine and not exactly a comfortable space as it is. I usually remove them entirely (they aren't bolted down but are attached to a base) and leave one side open and put a full size cooler on the other side. The cooler is then held in place, is out of the way, and serves as a step for those getting in/out of the boat from the back. I'd just think about whether or not you really need them before you go through the trouble of fixing it.

Hauln, that is a good idea. There are cooler cushions available, and a guy could attach a small pad on the back of the boat too so it could double as another place to sit for a bit.

I removed the seat cushions on either side of my splashwell and replaced each side with carpeted pieces of plywood. No one is going to be sitting back there , and it makes coming aboard easier from docking port or starboard. They make excellent fishing platforms as well. I just couldn't see the expense of replacing those jump seats only for them to be stepped on. I already have four seats in my 20' in the pic below... any more than four people on a 20' cuddy is a crowd.
