I have to replace my manifolds/risers.
1982 OMC 3.8L V6 (229CID)
Here is my existing layout:

The OEM parts are around but extremly high priced. And I want to adapt something like this:

What do you think this guy used ? Is that an elbow/reducer? Is it an 80 degree bend? Is it just hose that goes from the elbow down to the bellhousing?

Looking for a little "backyard" ingenuity here.

This is junk. for several reasons. To make a boat engine reliable, keep it simple. If you want to save cash, use the aftermarket manifolds that actually fit. They are available from your dealer/distributor. just ask him to look for them. Or: email me & I'll give you part numbers

Ummm Rabid.... the picture is of a 3.8L... That is the OSCO OEM replacement...! GLM has a similar design... both require adaptation from a rear riser to a center riser. Neither.... as far as I know, offer a complete retro kit, which is why I am asking for some assistance.

I have the OEM part numbers... just not willing to spend the $500- $700 a side for the project.

KaGee
once your past the riser/elbow as in the photo the exaust has been cooled and surface temp is no longer a saftey issue

i cant tell from the photo but it looks they just used a 90 deg street ell and pipe to finish the run

if you have a mcmaster carr book they have fittings in every type of material threaded, butt or socket weld

tommays

Thanks for the input guys.

Snapper, I thought that was an 80*. What I have to confirm now is the diameter of the riser output. The bellhousing is 4" I believe or 3 and 7/8 or something.

Robby, I plan on buying the GLM's from Moore.

Tom, I'll check McMaster Carr... an elbow is an elbow. But I wonder if they have 80* bend?

The Elbow there is part of Osco kit CRR80x3.5: 80*, 3 inches in, 3-1/2 inches out, mounted on the CRR-2 riser.
