Cutting hole for aerator

I need to cut a hole in the back of my boat for an aerator. Where should I do this? How big should the hole be? Is there a standard size? My boat is aluminum. It looks like Djohns boat except completely stripped.

purchase your aerator of choice first many have diff. size inlets from 7/8 to 1 1/2 place it well below the water line in under your splash well area (easy access). On Alu. boat If it does not go though your transom reinforcement use a 4x4 piece of 3/4 plywood inside as a backing plate, use your marine sealer behind it smear it on good this will help absorb noise,keep it transmitting sound thoughout the hull and READ the directions good luck

jomac is right on.<br /><br />Buy the aerator first, that will determine the hole size.
