I have a 120 hp mercury engine the top piston went down in it recently - luckily i caught it pretty early ( as it was still running very well but compression was low) anyway the cylinder ended up with some light scratches in it just really light they are none of them deep enough to hang my fingernail on - im wondering is there a product that i can use to fill those scratches with? - we intend to replace the motor next year but i would like to be able to find a temporary fix till the - also wondered if i just replace the piston and run it - seems as though it would last a year or so any ideas or thoughts are welcome - i know this is not the usual approach to this kind of problem but i dont want to spend a chunk on it when we are gonna replace it anyway-just want to get another 10-12 outtings would be fine.

Re: cylinder damage

A lot depends where the scratches are, if below the port they don't mean much, has the cyl. been honed yet, if not a light deglazing may take it out
