I have a puzzle. I purchased a 1970 V-197 Glastron with a V-6 Buick motor 155HP 225 CID not knowing the cylinder head starboard side was cracked. After further research I have been told that I need to match the casting numbers exactly. Well, I finally found a used head but the fifth number is five numbers different from mine.

Does anyone know what these numbers designate and if I would be safe purchasing this head? Here are the specifics to this motor:

SN: J0104615
Model: HUTM-69M
Cylinder #: B-1376346

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Love these old OMC's!where did you find the info on matching casting?
I can.t sell you anything,because all these parts are NLA.But if iboats will let you email triciymarine@aol.com,I have books there that may let me give an answer.
DHP

If you have the head off, take it to any automotive machine shop. They can identify it and find you a good core. Of course they would want to do a valve job for you as well.

DHPMARINE:

After speaking with many sales reps for salvaged parts they told me to make sure I have the exact casting number. How do I ask Iboats if I can e mail you at the other address? Thanks for your help!!

Boomyal;

I did take it to a cylinder head shop and he had no idea. He narrowed it down to a Buick motor but that was all he could do. Thanks anyway!
