What do you think about the gasket surface on this cylinder head? Is it ready to be mounted? There are some nicks on one of the cumbustion chambers but not where the gasket goes..Just want your opinion...

If you have doubts about the head's flatness, you can surface it on a heavy glass plate with a sheet of fine sandpaper (i.e. 220 grit open coat) glued to it. You will be able to easily see any low spots. Move the head in a figure 8 pattern with light pressure. Don't consider getting the heads milled, however.

Make sure to torque the head bolts when replacing.

It looks like the links work. Thanks wildone, They are flat, but just wanted to make sure they are clean enough and smooth....

No broken bolts, amazing!!! And I did remove both heads...

I'm thinking about gluing some 320 grit sandpaper to a granite tooling plate to put the finishing touches on them.. But If everyone thinks they looks good enough, I may let that go.. They lay flat, but there are a few small scatches here and there, probably due to the original install. As I've been pretty careful with them.

Heads look good. Don't worry about those pit-lookin' places. What you don't want are little burrs that will heat up and cause predetonation.

c/6
Hooty

Re: Cylinder Head, Suface (pics)

Thanks everyone,

Chumb,

The cylinder walls look great, better than I ever expected, very smooth and clean, no scores..

The top of the pistons do have some carbon on them, not a very heavy buildup or anything just a thin coat across the entire surface... I suspect that is normal...????

I went ahead a did the 320 grit sandpaper thing glued to a surface plate for the heads. They look really good now, except for a few light scratches. I'm just going to clean the block surface with Zep Power Solv. and a scotchbrite pad and hope for the best... If you think!
