Cylinder Head wet on one side?

Hello all, I have a 1989 V4 110. Just last fall swapped from busted VRO to manual fuel pump last fall. Boat runs strong and not having any performance problems at all. I have noticed that I have fuel/oil mix all around one of the cylinder heads but the other side is dry. Looks like it's comming from around spark plug hole or possibly from the head cover itself?....What I need to know, Is this a potential cotastrophy type problem? Can I simply pull the head cover and replace a gasket? ....the rest of the engine is dry toward the carbs.
Thanks for any help!

Sounds like a bad head gasket. Assuming that the spark plug is tight and has a gasket on it? Pull the head and check it out. It should be a pretty easy fix.

Re: Cylinder Head wet on one side?

Thanks for the quick reply. I did replace the spark plugs last fall also, I will recheck the plugs to make sure they have the gasket rings in place and torque...I consider myself a "parts changer" not a mechanic so simply put, if it requires going inside the block of the engine i'm lost, but I will take a set of carbs off in a hearbeat! and i've worked on motorcycle engines and small stuff but i've never worked on a 2 stroke outboard....Head gasket looks straight forward, unbolt the head, replace gasket, and torque specs..... no valves to worry about and nothing to jump out at me right?

Just check the head to be sure it is not warped or cracked. Put a straight edge across it and try to fit a feeler gauge under the straight edge. Clean and look for cracks under a bright light.
