Ayuh,.... He needs a head with the same Castin' Number, regardless what it comes off of,....

Or,... Add an intake manifold, 'n bolt on a set of Vortec heads,....

Bondo so if he goes to the junk yard and finds a truck with the same motor he will need the two heads and intake to make it work??? The problem is that he had someone check out his boat at the marina and this mechanic did a compression check and 3 cylinders had low compression, so the guy said he needs new valves and it's going to be a $2500 job....

Ayuh,..... A '90 has what motorheads call the Fuelie heads, '86 to '96, I believe, with a different angle on the center intake bolts, than the previous SBC heads, up to '86,...
Yer Bud could probably find a rebuilt set at a local Machine Shop,...
If yer Bud buys a new intake manifold, he can Up-date to the '96, 'n beyond Vortec heads,...
They have No center intake bolts,...
I wouldn't run junkyard heads, unless they went to a Machine Shop for a rebuild, before I bolted 'em on,...
Whatever heads he uses, the Castin' numbers, Must Match,.....
