Cylinder scoreing running on one cylinder?

I've heard that when you want to run out the gas on a two cylinder or bigger outboard, it is not a good idea as when one carb goes dry, and other cylinder is still running and the one not running can get scored due to lack of oil. I've run miles before on an OMC 15 2 stroke on one cylinder and it ran great after that (after the CDI was replaced) and have run the gas out of larger outboards with no problems I can detect. Is this a myth or true?

Total myth -----Just more proof that the mixing of gas / oil and what happens after it goes through the carburetor is not well understood !!-----Think about it.-----For oil to lubricate it must be coating / covering the parts.-----When one carburetor goes dry when you are running it out of fuel that oil simply does not disappear in an instant.

If the myth were true, there would be ruined outboard boats littering the Bayfront. What do you think happens when you are cruising along on a 6-gallon tank and the tank runs out of fuel?

Agreed----Have never seen a warning on any tank that says----" Do not let run empty "-----Or in any manuals.
