I have a 1999 yamaha 115 2 stroke that I recently was given. Model S115TLRX. The boat was stored over a year with the power tilt in the up position. I finally got it home yesterday and have started cleaning everything. I tried to move power trim into down position but the starboard/right side trim cylinder would not go down. The main middle cylinder works fine and goes up and down and also the port side cylinder goes up and down. What could be the problems of only one cylinder not working? And more importantly how do I fix them?

Thanks, this is my first boat!

Raise the engine and block the motor up. Hit the trim down button and then hit the stuck ram with a big rubber hammer. Its probably a stuck oring.

Re: Cylinder stuck on power trim

Thanks Capt. Ken, I got brave enough and pounded on it harder than the first time. That finally got it unstuck. I used a hammer and a sponge since I didnt have a rubber mallet. The dust seal looks like it almost pretruded out of cap. So I am going to order a new cap and replace the seals in it. The tool to remove the cap looks expensive. Any ideas on where to find this pin spanner wrench for cheap?

If the dust seal is protruding out, then corrosion is behind it. A spanner isn't going to remove that cap. If you are going to order a new cap, then heat around the threads of the cap and use a punch and hammer in one of the holes to spin it free

Yes, the cap does have corrsion. I ordered new cylinder assemble with piston and all new seals. I am hoping it will be in late next week. I will give the punch and hammer a try when parts come in. Thanks so much again!
