Hello everyone, I had the boat hauled out today for my first 100 hr service since I bought the boat in October. Besides the exhaust bellow being junk and a couple of other "need to attend to" items, the mechanic said there is a hairline crack in the port-side exhaust manifold. No leaks as of yet..It looks like I should be able to replace the manifold and riser myself. Any thing special to watch for??
Good source for correct parts?

2000 5.0 Mercruiser #omo12817
Thanks, Rick

Got my aluminum ones from ebay, really all you need is a screw driver to remove the pipe from the riser to the y-pipe and a socket wrench. Pretty easy job. I usually do plugs while I'm in there since they're exposed.

Removed and replaced the head gasket this summer and in the process the easiest part was removing the exaust manifold. Just make sure you get new gaskets and clean all the excess gasket material before re-installation. You can get all the parts you need from a dealer and or Napa

Check out the Osco manifolds on ebasicpower.com. Good price and made in the USA, or so they claim.

Re: D.I.Y Replace exhaust manifold and riser?

There have been a few threads on how to change the manifolds and risers. It's not complicated. Just remember the manifolds are heavy. One trick I've used, as have others, is to buy two threaded rods or bolts slightly longer than the manifold bolts. If you use bolts, cut the heads off. Remove one outer manifold bolt. Replace it with one of the threaed rods/headless bolts to hold the manifold from falling. Do the same for the other end. Then remove the inner bolts. Now slide the manifold off the two headless bolts. They were your extra set of hands, saves your knuckles and your sparkplugs (If you drop the manifold, it breaks the plugs.). Clean everything and reinstall the headless bolts and new gasket. Slide the new manifold on and install innner bolts. Hope this helps. Hy

Um. Replace BOTH manifolds and risers. At 11 years old, and one failed, I wouldn't trust the other one!
