Hello Honda Guys!

Still have not received my service manual to for my Dad's motor. I have only worked on Johnny/Rudes and my new Merc 150 Optimax. Need to leave on Friday for Kentucky (from Florida) Can someone please answer these questions? Please don't laugh at me!!! I am not used to this four stroke stuff!

1. What type of oil and how much to buy? Filter type?
2. Lower Unit oil? What type for Honda?
3. Impeller? Straight forward or a pain in the *****? Dealer only?
4. Plugs? NGK or Champion? Type?

The old man's motor has not really been touched since new. The whole rig (pontoon) probably only has 50 hours on it. It sits in the lake year round in the marina. He lives way out in the sticks of Kentucky, so parts and service for him are very difficult. Luckily, the trusty Honda runs like a sewing machine, but I am worried about the fluids and impeller which has never been changed. Dad is not the most mechanical person in the world, but he can really catch the crappie. I will take care of the other stuff!!

Thanks to all ahead of time.

Motor oil gets fun.NMMA has recently come up with a FCW, which stands for four cycle watercraft, oils.Supposedly there are added dispersants and greater corrsion control with these oils. They are generally not much more than automotive engine oils and Hondas power equipment oil is the same product. You might have a hard time finding either where you are so a quality automotive 10w 30 might have to do.Honda P/N for that filter is 15400 PFB 014.Cross that to whatever you can get.Gear oil is the same as you are used to,HI VIS or MERC premium blend. To remove the gearcase shift the unit to reverse, release the shift shaft disturbing that locknut as little as possible to ease reassembly. You have one hidden bolt under the trim tab then the other four and you are down.NGK DR7EA. Hope this helps.
