Darn you Auto-Correct !!!

It happens on text messages and I also notice it happens when I use my iPad to post on this forum. . . That auto-correct 'feature' that all these newer high tech devices have.

So, I continually find my self typing messages and thinking that I have done a decent job grammatically, and spelling-wise . . . Hit the post button, only to find some whacked out words that I never typed in the first place.

Darn you auto-correct

So, if you read any of my messages and a strange word appears, it is not the drugs nor the alcohol, it is that darn auto-correct making up its own words.

How many other folks have this same issue with their tech devices?

There is even a web site dedicated to the subject . . . Some funny messages and conversations happen, all due to the miracle of auto-correct. http://Www.damnyouautocorrect.com

Yeah, love this new flawed technology.
It doesn't appear to have a "learn" feature either. It keeps "fixing" the same words.

I have only had a problem with it since I upgraded to LION.

I don't really need it for any iCloud functions, but will lose all my .mac and .me email accounts if not using LION or higher.

I've laughed my butt off at some of the things on the autocorrect website. Funny stuff on there and worth a look if anyone is looking for a good way to kill some time.

When I want it to 'learn', I add the word to the auto correct dictionary

ok I will play. couple weeks ago my sister who has a wonderful husband that has the mechanical skills of a female infant, so I am the wonderful big brother that gets called a couple times a week to help him fill his windshield washer fluid(ok I am overstating this a slight bit) so My sister invites me over for dinner since she is soooooo indebted to my skillfulness so I ask her what is on the menu since her and her family are the always eat healthy type and clearly I am NOT!! and she tells me "Brocciole" and I read this to mean Broccoli which while I am a fan of Broccoli it is not a main on the menu but rather an accessory to the main and therefore I am not interested and politely decline, well apparently she was insulted by this and so she called me immediately to ask why? I told her exactly what I just told you guys, Broccoli is not a main on any sane individuals menu and she says WHAT? she never texted Broccoli she text Braciole, well now I am VERY INTERESTED!! and tell her I will be right over!!

Braciole is thin sliced steak rolled with bacon and then cooked in your spaghetti sauce for several hours, Heaven fellas pure Heaven...

I can do that, manually, but the old OS did it automatically if you used a word several times.
It simply became a known word.
It would give you the choice of several different spellings, but would accept your spelling if an alternative was not chosen.
After several times, it wouldn't even highlight the word.

The new version just creates a word, in spite of what you type.
It pretty much forces you to watch the screen while typing.

Starcraft keeps getting changed to stagecraft, or star craft.
Bayliner gets changed to Byliner, whatever that is.

"upgrade" when it comes to software and technology is a bad word in my opinion. Electronics that simply do what they're supposed to do is all I need.......no need to fix what ain't broke.

No....my count is at least two spelling typos and a grammatical "oops" and auto-correct "didn't save you".

Why worry about it?

Yep...my HTC does that. Changes the words completely...I got tired of it doing that and I finally figured out how to turn that sh*t off

I hate a machine that thinks it is smarter than I am...well...on second thought it may be smarter than I am

But it can not work without me....HA

I've seen that website, and I get a kick out of it for 2 reasons. One, some of the slips are beyond funny, and the other reason is because of the diehard iFanboys around here that think Apple products are the the most amazing thing in the world.
Droids might slip up and insert a weird word from time to time, but the iThings are king when it comes to that.
