Dash temp gauge for 1988 Evinrude120

I have a 1988 Evinrude 120hp mod# E120TXCCA engine. It only has a buzzer for the temp information. Is there any way I can connect a dash type temp gauge to my engine? What do I need to buy to do this if possible and where do I get it? Someone said to buy a standard dash temp gauge and connect it to the lead the sets the buzzer off back at engine head or splice it in at the buzzer on the throttle controls. I am assuming this wire has some type of temp sending unit back there at the head. Thanks for help. email if you like, hw3tnt@nc.rr.com

hw,

OMC did offer temp. guage kits. Your local dealer should be able to quote a price for one.

Hooking up a standard guage to the senders on the heads, will not work.

You can wire a light (LED, or similar) that will come on in conjunction with the hot warning buzzer. I've seen that done before.

Have you considered a water pressure guage?
Cheap, easy to install and verifies your water pump is working.

Where do you hook the water presure gauge up to on my model engine? I havent thought about the light either but i would rather have a temp gauge along with the water presure gauge and light. Something else could make it heat beside the water , I am thinking.

The aftermarket temperature gauges do work.
(teleflex) I attached one to my moter by removing
one of the head bolts and attaching the supplied
bracket. The pick then screws into the bracket
and and up against a flat spot in the head/water
jacket. It may not be the most accurate this way
but it does do a good job for relative temperature.

Newer blocks than mine often have a threaded mount
point for such a gauge.

On my V4, I mounted it on other half of the block. from the temp alarm sensor.

Regards,
Mike

check your previous post. i answered that question about pressure gauge.
-
on the cylinder heads there is a threaded hole to the left of the lower tstat cover bolt that the omc temp sender will screw into.
