Got a 58 3hp motor that we use on the duck boat it has seen very little use and i was wondering if i should de-carb the engine and if there is any risk to the motor and how should i do it.
The only 'damage' you hear about is sometimes someone will loose a spray can straw down a spark plug hole, and occasionally the process ends up fowling out a plug. If you've got an old set around use them for decarbing. On the little J/E engines I think it's very worthwhile as they do carbon up over time - especially if run rich or with the wrong oil/mix, which seem to happen often. That leads to stuck rings and sometimes clogged exhausts.

Here's how you do it (click here).
