De-Winterize Fuel Mixture

I have a Suzuki DT 100 with an automatic oil injection system. The owner's manual recommends that every year the system is de-winterized with 1 tank (6 gallons) of 50:1 gas/oil mixture in addition to what normally happens with the automatic oil injector. Is this really necessary - or even helpful?

Must be, if the manufacturer says to do it.<br /><br />Why would you not want to do this, just to save $3 of oil?<br /><br />It also gives you a chance to monitor the oil injection system to make sure it is working, without endangering your motor.
