I had my motor winterized, now I need to de winterize it, 1999 5.7 Mercuriser. But don't want to pay someone to install the plugs and the hose. But I don't know or see where the 5 plugs have been taken out from. I can find where 3 of them go but not the other 2. Need the locations of these.

I have a 5.0, and there are 2 plugs on the block, 2 on the exhaust manifolds (almost directly above the block plugs), and 1 at the front of the fuel filter.

H.

I have found the 2 on the exhaust and 1 on the elbow for the large hose. Looked for ones on the block but can't seen to find them. Are they on the back of the block by the outdrive or in the front by the pulley or water pump.
Thanks

Mine are right on the side, about mid-block.
Almost directly underneath the exhaust risers.

You have to get down there and look close. I even have to feel for one of mine due to all the hoses and wires in the way.

H.

Yep,
There Should be 1 just ahead of the forward end of the Starter.....
And the other is a couple inches ahead of the Oil Filter Adapter, on the port-side........
These 2 are in the Exact Same Place on All SBC motors.......

BTW, If your motor came with the Cute Little Blue Plastic drains.........
Through Them AWAY.........
Get yourself a nice set of Brass Drains.........
You'll Thank Yourself Someday.............. ;)

Bondo...

Mine came with the plastic plugs, and although I haven't had any problems with them, I can see where you might if you cross-thread them, or they get stuck.

Where can I get a set of brass plugs?

H.

Re: De winterize MerCuriser

Once you remove the plastic body out of the engine block,
You'll find you're left with the Same 1/4" pipe threaded hole that's in All SBC motors......
In other words.... Any block drain, in 1/4"pipe will fit......

What I've seen of those Plastic Drains, Is they screw In fine, They just Don't like to come Out......

If you get stuck and cant find them all, just put the earmuffs on and start it up.You will be able to see right away where they are.A little fresh water wont hurt anything.Charlie
