Re: De-winterizing

Basically just start it up. No Big Deal.

Things I do, in my personal order of importance, depending on if I'm motivated:

change the lower unit oil (I did it in the fall too ... maybe it's not needed again, but it's so cheap and easy. My philosophy always is when in doubt, lube).

charge the battery and clean the terminals before re-installing.

Fresh fuel if the tanks portable (mine are now built in, and I fill and stabilize in the fall).

take a look at the lines and wires

check the plugs condition and gap if I think of it. Sometimes, if it's been a while, I just change the plugs on general principles.

If it's time, this is when you'd change the water pump impeller.

Re: De-winterizing

If you are going to change the plugs, do it after running the engine for a while. You'll want all that winterizing oil burned off before putting in the new plugs.

Brew

Re: De-winterizing

Ditto what davexx said....stay away from the starter fluid...it has no lubricating properties and will fry a cylinder pretty quick. If you ever need to squirt something in your carbs to get your motor going, use a little premix (gas and oil at 50:1) in a old windex bottle or something similar.

Your motor should just start up using the normal start procedure...may require a little extra priming, but that should be about it. Giving the plugs a real quick clean wouldn't hurt either.

Get ready to be smoked out once it does start though. All that thick oil you used to winterize it really puts on a smoke show for the first 10-15 minutes!! If there isn't any breeze, there is a good chance you won't see your rig for smoke for a bit!

Good luck!

Brew
