1996 225 Saltwater Series engine - Stbd Motor is dead as doornail. No Tilt & Trim. No power to gages or tach. ALL Fuse's have been checked and rechecked both visually and with volt meter. Power to engine is fine and all fuse down line have power. Swapped Rectifier & Trim & Tilt relays to working Port Motor and everything works fine. To rule out harness problem, disconnected all harness but power cables and trim & tilt doesn't function. Same procedure on Port motor and Trim & Tilt work fine. Checked every ground and motor harness for damage and found none. HELP???? I am at a loss as what to try next. Does anyone have any suggestions?

a modelnumber would help.
in 96 the 225 was either a 3.1 or a 2.6. both had wildy differeing electricals.
with a complete model number I can tell you wich one you have.
right now about all I can say is its yamaha silver blue and a 225.

Re: Dead 225 Saltwater Series (1996)

A couple of years ago I had a problem with simular sympoms. Mine is a older 200@2.6. Anyways I had a wireing harness that ran under the cylinder heads and I found that either factory or someone? had used a butt connector to join two wires to one. The connection had not been water tight enough and corrosion set in. One day it was loss of power with alarms followed shortly by " no power" Sounds very simular but you may have to check every connection.
