Yamaha 1990 225. All was fine till 3 days ago helm will go dead, (trim & ignition) after a period of running & then sitting. However if it sits all night, it will be OK again, but for how long? Is there a switch or relay that gets hot & cuts out the system or what? I have taken many tips from the archives, re: new battery & cleaned & tighgened contacts, (but maybe not ALL of them).Informed suggestions gratefully accepted. thnx. Cons

Check the battery cables. I know you said you cleaned contacts but you didn't say all of them and in the case of the battery cables, both ends. That means remove both ends and clean them thoroughly. Check the terminals carefully, especially where the wire enters the terminal. Any corrosion at that point is an indication that either the cable needs to be replaced or the end cut off and a new one installed. If using wing nuts on the battery, throw them overboard and replace with stainless nuts and internal or external tooth washers (also stainless). If this doesn't solve the problem, check the engine control harness plug for corrosion. Disconnect and reconnect several times.

Thanks for the tips. I will dig into those cables & go with the nuts & washers. I found some bad wires in the main bundle & am checking for more.
