Gents, I have a '95 Evinrude 30 hp E30TELEOB with a tilt that I bought used a few years ago. The tilt part # is 0176240. (OBJ -- Thanks for that BRP parts link in your previous message). I was getting my boat ready for the year and found that the tilt isn't working. It seemed like an electrical problem, so I checked the switch, fuse and all connections from the battery to the motor - it all looks good. I pulled the endplate off of the motor housing and saw some corrosion. (Last summer was the first time I used the boat in salt water.) Any ideas? Should I attempt a rebuild or cleaning? Also, I'm trying to replace the fluid. Does any one know how I drain the old fluid? The only place that looks like it's in the right spot is the manual let-down valve, and it's held in place with a retaining ring. I'll appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.

Update: I removed the fill plug and about 2 oz of fluid drained. It's the only fill plug and is mid-way up the fluid housing. It seems the fluid housing must have been filled with the tilt unit removed from the boat because the level was above the top plug. Is this a single-plug unit that must be removed to drain and fill? I bought the boat used and don't have any of the manuals. I can't find any information on-line. This is the unit... http://epc.brp.com/default.aspx?brands=ej&lang=E
If anyone knows anything about this and can help, I'll realy appreciate it. Thanks.

Tough nut...not much interest in my area by any shops to deal with this thing.

BRP will send parts. I think I'm going to try a shop that works on generic electric motors. It looks like a fairly simple set-up for someone who knows about these things...I hope.

MAJ....the reservoir only has one fill plug on it. And, you need to check the fluid level which is even with the bottom of the fill hole with the engine all the up. You probably checked the level with the engine all the way down....that's why you got so much fluid out of it.

No power....I do believe the motor is bi-polar....two wires coming from it. Green and Blue? You can test the motor itself just by taking the motor harnes connector (where it connects from the tilt switch) and applying 12V across the two wires. Neg from the batt to the green wire and pos to the blue, the engine should tilt up. Reverse the leads and the engine goes down. If this works, then the problem lays either in the tilt switch or it's power supply.
